What is a Doula?
A Doula is a trained non-medical companion who supports another individual through a significant health-related experience such as childbirth, miscarriage, induced abortion, or stillbirth or non-reproductive experiences such as dying. A Doula may also support the partner, family, and friends.
Meet Doula Daisy
Founder
Hello Beautiful People! I’m a Holistic Home Birth Doula, Trained Advanced Labor Support Doula, Peer Lactation Specialist, and Childbirth Educator. I’ am currently pursing my Associate's Degree in Midwifery from the Midwest Maternal Health Institute. I expect to complete the program in March 2024. I previously sought a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Coaching Track and Field and Personal training are also known passions of mine. However, it was not until I had the privilege of giving birth to my first and only Child Queen Jeffries, on April 12, 2018, that fire for birth work was ignited. I was told that day by my delivering midwife that I would one day be able to call myself a midwife as well.
“Birth work is unpredictable and led me to take and receive certification in Fertility Support and PAIL, otherwise known as Prenatal and Infant Loss Advocacy. I am proud to announce the completion of Birth Assistant Training with Rising Phoenix Birth Services, A Home Birth Training, and Traditional Birth and Postpartum traditions training. The huge disparities in birth among women of color have made it hard for a spirit full of fairness, justice, and truth, to stand by and do nothing. My mission is to serve underrepresented communities and indigenous people by offering low-cost services. Birth work comes from my very soul. Birthwork is my stand for new beginnings, justice, and morality.”
When Should I Hire A Doula?
Having the right doula for you is an incredible gift, whether you are a first time parent or you already have children. Just like healthcare providers, doulas come in all forms, with different personalities, passions and specialties. Consider booking a discovery call to discuss what kind of doula support might be most helpful for you, and how to hire a doula that meets your needs, preferences and budget.
